He returned her soft smile as she stood and dusted herself off. He stood as well, dusting his own pant's legs off. He straightened out as she said let's go. "Alright, I'll show you the way." He smiled faintly, holding out a hand to her, if she wanted it...

She glanced at his hand, wanting to feel his fingers intertwining with her own. She wanted it so bad. But she didn't want to loose him either. She'd only just met him and somehow she felt as if she'd known him forever. He treated her like they'd been friends forever too, which didn't help much. She swallowed a bit and ran her tongue over her dry, chapped, lips, she had forgotten to put lip balm on that morning and would pay with a split and bloody lip later she suspected.
Her blue eyes flickered to him and she raised her hand placing it gently in his, letting her dry lips twist into a gentle smile, just a soft friendly smile, she kept her face a mask of indifference, not wanting her emotions to show in her blue eyes, which sparkled slightly in the glare of the sun making them look like sapphires glinting and twinkling in the sunlight.
Amelia was afraid. She was afraid of loosing what she cared for and do whatever it took to keep those she cared for safe...even it meant her own downfall which she suspected it would lead to in the future. That was another thing she feared, her future. She'd seen her death in so many painful ways and woke screaming at night drenched in a cold sweat because of those visions. The particularly brutal ones, nothing compared to the quick deaths of her parents - oh no, her visions made her suffer and feel every ounce of pain.
But despite her fears, here she was allowing her fingers to intertwine with Detective Blake's, a small smile on her lips.

He smiled softly as she placed her hand in his. He wanted so badly to be her friend, her partner. He felt weird, he felt a connection to her, though they had just met. He knew that had to walk fifteen miles to his car, and that was plenty of time to figure things out, right? After the fifteen miles it was the murder case, and showing her the ropes, though he had a feeling she already knew what to do.. He smiled a little more as he felt her fingers intertwine with his. He squeezed her hand gently, keeping a soft grip on her hand. They had about fourteen and three quarter miles to walk still, so there was time to talk, if she wanted to. "Anything you want to talk about?" He sent a sideways glance at her, smiling slightly, squeezing her hand gently.

Amelia bit her lip to keep her smile from broadening when his hand gently squeezed hers and he felt a gentle grip on her hand. She shrugged her shoulders lightly when he spoke again. She suddenly wanted to spill out everything in her life to him, knowing somehow that he'd understand. But instead she held it inside, she didn't want to drop any hints that perhaps this could lead to a relationship beyond friendship, and friendship was all she wanted. Well no, that's all her mind told her she wanted, but her heart told her differently.
She glanced at him a slight breeze running long fingers through her hair, whipping it out behind her, several strand s sliding into her face and a few others slapping gently against his shoulder. She blushed a bit and pulled a tie from around her wrist and collected her wild hair tying it back into a ponytail. She hated wearing it like that but she had been slightly embarrassed when it swept off her shoulders and onto his, as though her heart took control of the wind and pushed it there to try and get her to drop a hint that she wanted them to be something more.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?" she asked, cocking her head a bit, interest flaring up in her sapphire like eyes.

He smiled faintly as her hair slipped onto his shoulder, when she put it up, the smile shrunk a little. "It looks better down." He smiled faintly, squeezing her hand one last time softly. He smiled softly, tying to hint something, without giving anything away. He had the urge to tell her everything, but held it in. He wanted to tell her how both of his parents had been murdered, on different nights, but in the same way...but he stayed in silence for a moment. He then looked at her, rather kindly. "I asked you first, Amelia." He kept smiling softly as he waited for her response.

Amelia looked at him when he said it was better down. She smiled at him, eyes glowing as she slipped off the ponytail. She shook her head a bit and slid the tie around her wrist again. She ran a hand through her hair to calm the static. She bit her lip a bit when he squeezed her hand softly again. She couldn't do this. She couldn't just give in to that slight feeling she felt. She just wanted to be friends. She had to convince herself of that, why was she unable? Because her heart said differently.
But she didn't want him to get hurt...and she didn't want to be broken if he did. She didn't want the guilt if she could have saved him. She sighed, she was being selfish. Shouldn't she just admit it before it was too late? Admit that she wanted to be more then friends with a partner she knew nothing about? She sighed again and looked at the ground, strands of her blonde hair falling into her face, hiding the sadness in her eyes. She bit her lip again, so hard that she tasted that metallic tang of blood.
When he spoke again she couldn't help but allow a smile to slither past her mask of indifference. She moved her eyes from the ground up to his face where she looked into his eyes and she allowed her smile to grow a bit. "I...I don't know," she admitted. She thought but couldn't think of a topic to talk about. She shrugged, "Why did you become a detective?" she asked, letting her azure eyes to flicker to his once more.

He smiled as she pulled her hair down. She looked amazing, her blonde hair slightly falling into her face, her blue eyes downcast. Her eyes, so pretty and blue. He caught a sadness in her eyes, and wondered why it was there. When she looked at him, a smile on her face, faint as it was, it made him smile too. She looked into his eyes, and, yes...he looked back. When she asked why he had become a dective, he let his eyes flutter away. He sighed, his fingers still intertwined with hers as they walked. "My parents....they were murdered..." He muttered, not looking at her. "So, seeking justice...as soon as I was old enough, and out of the boy's home, I joined the force..." He looked back at her, not bothering to mask the sadness he felt in his eyes. He didn't want to say anymore, but, hey...partners have no secrets...

Amelia glanced at him. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have asked..." She sighed, "My parents were murdered too..." She saw the sadness in his eyes and she gently squeezed his hand, wanting to help in anyway possible. She didn't know what was in store for them, well in some ways she did but chose not to think about it.
Suddenly she remembered the missions. They were soon...she was going to sent to the Empire State University and was supposedly facing off against Sullivan, the master of glass as she liked the call him as it seemed he had an obsession with glass. She wondered if she'd come back from the mission or would this be her only mission being partners with Detective Blake? She sure hoped not.
But never once had she looked into her own future on purpose.

He shrugged slightly, masking his face again. In a boys home, you learn how to hide your feelings.... "No, it's alright....we're partners, we need to know about each other." He looked at her, stopping and squeezing her hand gently. "I'm sorry." He opened his arms for her to hug him, if she wanted to. He hoped she wanted to, because he wanted to hug her and tell her it will be better, and that he knew how it felt...He smiled gently at her.

She shrugged a bit, "It's fine...I"m used to people leaving." She glanced at him and sighed, slipping her arms around his neck, giving him a quick hug. She was glad she'd been partnered with him. She had always known Gordon would make a good choice when giving her a partner.
At the thought of Jim Gordon she wondered if he remembered her, that small eight year old child coming to Gotham police station in search for help. She looked different now, she'd dyed her hair from the bleach blonde to a more golden blonde so she was easily missed...and she had contacts now not those round black as soot ones she'd had back then. She smiled a bit at the memory of her younger self.

He smiled slightly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He hugged her, arms wrapped lightly around her back. Her hair was in his face, but he didn't mind. It actually smelt good, though he couldn't quite place it. "Well, I'm not going anywhere." He smiled as he hugged her. Gordon had a knack for picking partners...

Amelia rested her head on his shoulder, unaware that some of her hair was in his face and that it had fallen just a bit to expose the white scar on her shoulder the scar in the shape of a skull...something that haunted her everyday because of one simple mistake...

He smiled slightly, opening his eyes, they fell on a white scar on her shoulder. It was shaped like a perfect scull. He wondered if he should ask, but then he shouldn't. He argued with himself about asking. The words slipped past his lips before he could stop them. "What's that from?" He asked softly.

Amelia froze when the words slipped through his mouth. She bit her lip and slid from his embrace. "It's uh....uh..." she sighed and looked at the ground. "When my parents were murdered in front of me when I was eight I was sent to live with my aunt and uncle. They kicked me out into the streets because of my powers...I kept them up at night when I'd wake screaming from nightmares, from visions of people who were said to never have existed. Or ones that were supposed to be dead...
"Before I came here, to Gotham, to ask for help I spent a year out on the streets...running from thieves...being a thief myself...I stole from the wrong man...he was rich...powerful...he took a hot iron and pressed it to my shoulder, after the years it turned to a scar..." she looked at the ground and kicked a rock.
She'd never told anyone about this before and now it had all slipped past her defenses before she could stop it. Pretty much her life story. She didn't glance up at him, she didn't want to see how he'd react. He'd probably request a new partner, but that was alright. She was used to people leaving. But it wasn't alright. She knew that. She would be broken if Blake left her. However she was too proud to admit it even to herself.

He frowned slightly as she pulled away from their embrace. But stayed quiet, face still masked as she spoke, towards the end, his face was completely softened. When she finished talking, she looked down. "Are you alright?" Was all he said, concern in his voice. Not a trace of anything but a soft concern. He really was conserend. He had done crazy things as well when he was first orphaned before he was taken in by the boys home.
