She let him tilt her head up, something Steve would do to her all the time, espically when she was feeling the way she was now. She kept her eyes shut, but they loosened a little. She shivered slightly at the fact that his hand was on her face. When he asked her to look at him, she slowly let her eyes open. Pain, and sorrow shining in her stormy gray irises. Her eyes locking on his, but they had no intensity, they seemed to be the eyes of an abused puppy. She listened to him talk, her eyes flickering down in shame at him guessing why she was going to jump. She felt weak, if something as simple as that could make her want to throw her life away. She returned her eyes to his, untapped pain still there, but also the hint of something else...something Hailey wasn't sure she wanted to ever feel again...but it was still there in her eyes. He squeezed her hand gently, and she squeezed back, not wanting to let go. Her frown was gone, and the ends of her lips were tilted up, ever so slightly. But she still felt weak at being crush so easily. You loved him for over 70 years, you have every right to be crushed... Her brain reminded her. She had looked down while she was thinking.

His dark eyes studied her. He could see something in her eyes and was unsure whether or not it was reflected in his own eyes. It was something he didn't ever want to feel again either. He'd lost Rachel because he'd saved Harvey Dent. The name left a foul taste in his mouth and he almost scowled. At one point he'd been willing to give Harvey Dent a chance, but that dashed away when the guy started to be obsessed with that burnt coin of his. Bruce had been willing to be friendly with the guy...for Rachel. Not for Harvey. For Rachel. But Rachel had died because Harvey had lived. The truth was too hard to bare...he'd lost his childhood friend...and the only woman he'd ever loved. He never felt a thing for anyone after her...but what about Hailey? Somehow there was something glittering in her eyes...and it was starting to creep into his. But he didn't want to feel that again. He was too afraid that somehow she'd be killed. "It'll be better in time."

She sighed, letting her gaze drop slightly. She sighed, leaning her head down on the bottom of the pillow, just beneath his side. She let her eyes slip close. What was wrong with her? She never wanted to love again....at least her brain thought so. Trying to protect her heart from being broken again. But her heart couldn't help it, not when he had been so nice, and understanding. A solid wall for her to lean on, to keep her from falling over the edge. She didn't want to lose him, even though she had just met him a few hours before he had already saved her life twice. She felt a connection she had never felt before, and it was strange. She knew now, she would hold herself in debt, and always try to repay him, even if he asked her not to. She was so puzzled by this, she thought, silently, her head at his side. "How can you promise that?" She muttered before she could stop herself. She sighed, and let a tired frown slid onto her face. "That's not what I meant..."

He sighed, "We can talk in the morning, right now just go to sleep." he told her softly, getting up. His eyes found hers once more. What was this strange connection? He'd never felt anything like it before. His heart ached for Rachel to be back, but when he put his eyes on Hailey all though of his childhood friend vanished. How could he love again? He didn't want to...or perhaps he did but he'd just told himself too much that he didn't. He was unsure and bit his lip, finding himself staring at her again. He gave her a faint smile and eased himself off the bed, about to leave.

She sighed as he stood up, her eyes flickering down. She looked back up at him. "Don't go." She asked, regretting it right after she said it. She felt like an ass. I just met you, but I want you told hold me while I sleep. Her brain mocked her, calling her a fool, but she was. She wanted to take it back, she wanted to rewind and not ask him to stay. She felt even more like a helpless child. She had even remembered as she walked to the building to jump she had heard a man say to his friend that she looked like A bird without wings She sighed, feeling worse than a bird without wings. She looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for an answer.

Bruce turned to look at her. He couldn't just say no and leave. He sighed slightly and went back over. He sat back down where he'd been, glanced at her and then laid down beside her, but far enough away. He laid on his back and stared up at the paint dripped ceiling and then back at her, meeting her stormy grey eyes. "I'm glad you didn't jump..." He rasped gently, giving her a smile, the truest he'd shown since they met.

She smiled slightly, rolling to face him. She smiled faintly, pulling the blanket close around her, still cold. She smiled faintly at him, trying the show her gratitude. She was under the blankets, and he was on top. With how cold she was, she didn't know how he wasn't freezing. She slid her hand half way over, under the covers, but stopped. Her mind calling her an idiot again. She sighed, stopping her hand's movement. She let her eyes flicker down. She sighed, and smiled a little as he said he was glad she didn't jump. She took a small breath, and looked up at him. "I'm glad you didn't let me fall." She sighed again, letting her eyes drift down again.

He smiled at her and gently slid back the covers so he could slide under, a few stings of cold getting to him, although he still kept a fair distance between them. "No one should go like that." He responded gently, giving her a smile as he lifted his head to fix the pillow a bit. He yawned a bit and closed his eyes, letting his aching body relax, but some of his muscles were still clenched, ready to spring up in case something happened.

She shivered slightly as he lifted the blankets to slide under, the cool air raising goosebumps on her bear skin. She shivered again, uncontrollably this time. She wrapped her arms around herself, feeling her bare shoulders, she remembered her shirt and pants were on the floor on the other side of the bed. She felt her face redden, and tried to look away. She shivered again, rubbing her hands up and down on her arms, trying to warm up. She shivered again, her teeth starting to chatter a little bit, she had been getting unaturaly cold ever since her attack by the three villains. "Thank you." She smiled, her jaw tremmoring as she shivered.

"You're freezing, are you sure you're alright?" came Bruce's concerned voice as he opened his eyes and turned to look at her. He quickly slid out of the bed and went to the drawer and grabbed two more of the fleece blankets. He headed back and hurriedly slid back under and placed the blankets over her shoulders and across her body. His dark eyes peered at her, was she really okay? He was unsure about that.

[[Aw no kore colors...]]
She shivered again as he stood, getting more blankets. She was shivering violently now. "I'm just so cold..." she muttered through chattering teeth as he slipped two more blankets on her. She was physically shaking so hard the bed tremmored. "So cold..." she whispered, wrapping her arms tighter around her chest, rubbing her hands up and down as she tried to get warm.

Bruce frowned at her and then gently pulled her into a loose hug, trying to warm her. He bit his lip and hoped that she was okay. He didn't say anything, just gently held her in an embrace. He looked down at her and gave a slight smile, just a faint twitch of the side of his mouth. He was worried about her. After this attack she was talking about, anything could happen. He bit his lip again and tasted the bitter taste of iron and he sighed slightly. Perhaps he was being too protective.

She was surprised as he wrapped her in a lose hug. She scooted a little closer, curling her arms in front of her chest, the backs of them pressed against his. Her shivering wasn't quite as violent, but it was still there. Her teeth were still chattering but not as hard or fast. She actually felt safer in his arms. She leaned her head down over her hands, her forehead resting on his chest. She was still shaking, but not quite as badly. She sighed, sounding like a slight hiss as it came from her chattering mouth. "Thank you..."

Bruce gave a faint smile and tightened the hug just a bit, noticing that her chattering teeth and violent shivers had lessened a bit, but they were still there. "Don't mention it." He replied gently, his beginning to close as sleep came over him, suddenly. "Goodnight." The words slipped from his mouth with a yawn as he drifted off into sleep, hoping that Hailey would be alright. Having chills was not good...especially after an attack...((but then...perhaps it was only because of his voice.))

She smiled faintly, adopting a little bit closer as he tightened the hug. She was still shivering, but no where near as badly. She let her eyes slide closed, getting warmer. "Good night." She smiled faintly again. She let herself drift off, comforted by the steady beat of his heart on her ear.
---time skip to morning----
Her eyes slid open, forgetting where she was again. The blue shirt in front of her, belonging to Bruce. She had fallen asleep in his arms, and had stayed there all night. She remembered now. She smiled slightly, noticing how their legs had tangled together over the course of the night. She sighed softly, and just laied there, waiting for him to wake up. She had no problems just laying in his arms.
