Loki wanted the power that this place had to offer, but not yet. First he wanted to find his brother so that the god of thunder could watch as Loki destroyed his precious world of Midgard. Loki snarled to himself, but a memory stopped him from moving onward from where he had stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. The pain of the memory gnawed at him and his rough calloused hand rubbed his shoulder where the black tattoo-like marking sat. He closed his eyes pain flickering through them when he opened them back up. The memory flashed before his eyes.

—FLASHBACK—

The chains cut into his skin, rubbing off the skin making it stained red with blood. Pain came into his eyes as the drip splashed onto his shoulder. His body shuddered but was unable to move away from the cause of the pain in his shoulders and back. The black viper, mouth open wide revealing large fangs dripping with black venom, was coiled above him as he withered in pain. Loki screamed out in pain when another drop of the dark liquid slammed into his smoldering shoulder. His eyes squeezed closed as his face distorted in utter pain. Suddenly the drips stopped. Loki dared to open his eyes. There was Rán, holding her helm to catch the venom.

“Oh Loki…” she murmured. “why did you kill Baldin?” Her hand gently caressed his face, smoothing out the lines of pain that distorted the face she found handsome. She gazed into his pain filled emerald eyes. She sighed and looked away, “It doesn’t matter, does it? What’s done is done.”

Loki looked at her and sighed, “I’m sorry Rán…so very sorry…he tried to kill me.” He knew she’d never believe him. He scarcely believed himself. Baldin wasn’t one to threaten to kill, but yet he had. Loki sighed softly and looked away from Rán. “ Rán….I –”

“Don’t” said Rán, removing the helm and another drip of liquid pain dropped down onto Loki, making him cry out. “Just don’t.” she repeated and turned on her heel, teal dress – being one of the only sources of color he’d seen for a long while- sweeping around her feet.

“I” Loki said to himself only to be cut off by another scream. “love” another scream slammed into him, “you” Pain consumed him and his screams wouldn’t end.

--FLASHBACK--

And then a girl ran into him. Or more like he ran into her.

Aurora was walking along the streets, thinking about what had recently happened to her.
She had woken up in a hospital, lying down, obviously, and in incredible pain. She had no family, and no one had known where she had known where she had come from. The nurse had said: "The man who brought you in said you walked up out of the ocean, stark naked, and tangled in seaweed." Of course all Aurora knew was her name, but she wasn't even sure about that. All she knew for sure, was she had escaped the hospital, and was running, and didn't feel the need to stop.
The doctors had discussed sending her to a orphanage, but a terrible storm, which sprung up from no where, tore all of the orphanages in the state from the ground, and ripped them to pieces. But, strangely, only the orphanages, and there were very few casualties.
Aurora knew it was her doing, but how she wasn't sure. But she did know; the doctors and nurses didn't know.
She was ripped from her thoughts by walking into a man. She stumbled backwards, lightning cracking overhead, the air starting to sizzle with electric energy.
"I'm sorry." She muttered, dusting off her light blue shirt and blue jeans. Her ocean blue eyes trained on her pants.

Loki stared at the girl. He brushed himself off and growled, "You should watch where you're goi-" He stopped and actually took a look at the girl. "Rán?" He asked in total disbelief. It couldn't be! Rán had died because of Thor. "Is it really you, Rán?" He titled her head up and looked into her eyes.

Loki couldn't believe it. This was the goddess he'd loved for so many long years, the one who he'd seen die. He brushed the hair from her face and looked in her eyes. "I don't believe it... He murmured.

Aurora looked up. "Excuse me?" What had he called her? She shook her head, still dusting off her shirt. That's when she looked up. She saw him, and he looked familiar. But she couldn't place him, and it bothered her. When he reached up to touch her face, she flinched, but didn't move away. "Who are you?" She asked softly, another bolt of lightning crackling over head.

"Loki, Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief don't you remember me?"

He asked, confused. How could she not remember him? After everything they'd gone through. He added to himself, God of Mischief...and lies..

"You are Ran, aren't you?"

He asked, his voice unusually gentle. Loki didn't understand it, how could she be here? She had died, hadn't she? He sighed and tilted her head up.

"Don't you remember me?"

He sighed once more. The only woman he'd ever loved didn't remember him. Just that thought made the anger enter his eyes, no. Not anger, the desperation, and the frustration. All the sadness of the world. In his emerald eyes, those eyes that both threaten and adore. He felt like a monster at that moment. For everything he'd done.

She shook her head, slightly. But the confusion was blatantly obvious in her eyes. She looked around, for a moment, and when he said the name Ran she squeezed her eyes shut. A wave of pain rolled through her, the pain of death.
"Loki?" Came the voice of the Goddess. But Aurora wasn't there at the moment, she was swallowed up by a world of pain. With a groan, the Goddess left the girl's eyes, but was still her. Ran was Arousal, but they were two different people, or were they?
"What happened?" She swayed slightly.

Ran?

Loki gripped her shoulders when she swayed. He searched her eyes for the superior power he'd seen in it only moments before.

"Hey, hey, you're fine, okay? I'm not sure what happened but I'm going to find out, to you hear me, Ran?"

The god hadn't felt this way for anyone, except for Ran. And now she didn't remember him, except for that small flash. He'd seen the slight pain in the girl's eyes. His voice was gentle,

"You're going to have to trust me, okay?"

She blinked her eyes. And again. Why wasn't she trying to run from this man? She didn't know him, yet she did. "Who am I?" She looked into his emerald eyes, which seemed to familiar, yet so different. She shook her head, trying to clear the fuzzyness, as the clear sky grew dark with clouds.
"I don't have anyone. What do I have to lose?" She forced a faint smile onto her lips, as she basically said, I trust you. She had no idea what she was stepping into, but this man, Loki, seemed to know. So, what choice did she have?

"You're Ran, goddess of the sea and weather."

Loki told her and then cringed slightly as the white clouds gave way to dark stormy clouds.

"See, you did that."

He told her, motioning to the dark clouds. He didn't know what to tell her. Obviously her memory was gone and she had no recollection of who she or he was.

This will be fun.

Thought Loki, with a sigh.

She nodded slightly, scared, yet not afraid. It was as if two people were fighting over her head. "Goddess? Me?" She shook her head in disbelief. Me a Goddess? I don't think so... She frowned. She felt as if another person was moving her hand as it reached out for his. Her fingers found his and grabbed his hand, but she didn't feel as if it was she who was moving her arms. "Well, Loki, I think you have some explaining to do.." She muttered. What is wrong with me?!

Loki sighed. How was he going to explain a life long of memories and secrets? Then he knew. He gently eased his hand over to her head where he pressed his one hand against the side of her face. He pressed all the memories he had of their times together into her head.

From:

Their first meeting in the arena,

to their second kiss in the gardens of Asgard.

to the battle that Loki nearly died in.

to the time in the dungeon when she'd come to see him.

to the battle where she nearly died.

to the last moments they shard.

And so much more.

All their laughs.

All their tears.

All their quarrels.

Everything.

The god of mischief just hoped it would be enough.

He stepped back.

And regarded her with curiosity.

Would she remember?

She eyes his hand as he reached up to touch her face. She flinched as memories flooded into her head. Could it all be true? Was she really a Goddess? But Ran had died. Yet Aurora, according to Loki, was Ran. She squeezed her eyes tight. When they opened again, they were different. They were no longer Aurora's eyes, nor were they Ran's eyes. They were like the two, put together. "Loki, it can't be true. Can it?" She was afraid, all the way through her soul and her entire being.

Loki looked at her. He nodded. "Yes. It can be true." He watched her through emerald eyes. "I lost you once...I don't want to loose you again..." He watched her. "I don't know how, but you are Ran."

[[writers block]]

She nodded, trying to wrap her head around it all. The sky became darker and large thunderheads started to roll in, as if from nowhere. "I need to remember." She muttered, as a burst of lightning struck the ground, not far from them. The sky boomed with thunder, and it started to rain. "Help me?" She looked into Loki's emerald eyes with her ocean blue ones.

Loki nodded, "I won't leave your side unless you want me to." he murmured, watching her, concerned, with his eyes that always seemed to be somewhat sad. Then he remembered that one battle that had nearly killed him. He frowned as a flashback came before him.

--flashback--

Loki slammed his fist into one of the monsters. It snarled at him and he shouted to Ran, "Ran! We're outnumbered, we should go back!" But that one moment that brought his mind away from the fight was the moment of his downfall. Pain jolted through him and despite himself he cried out as he felt the sides of the icy blade bit into his stomach. As it was pulled out, he saw it ridged with the red of his life.

He pressed his pale hands against wound, keeping pressure to it. He felt his knees buckle that sent him crashing to the ground. The ground rushed up on him and his hand slipped from holding onto the wound. Then darkness. Just an empty darkness.

Days later he awoke in Asgard. He looked around, pain overtaking him and he groaned. "LOKI!" His name was shouted out and he looked up as Ran threw her arms around him. He hugged her, pain in his stomach, but he ignored it. "Ran...You're alright." He said.

"I'm fine! But Loki, you almost died, I thought I'd lost you." There were tears in the goddess's eyes and Loki said, "I'm fine,don't worry." He brushed her tears away and kissed her.

--end of flashback--

Loki sighed. She had no recollection of that day.
