 JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL
Pepper hoped he would be cooperative today, although deep down inside she knew Tony Stark would be as stubborn as ever. As she punched in the code to his office, Pepper dangerously balanced the stack of papers she was caring on one arm. Her fingers hurried over the buttons and for a moment she thought she'd punched in the wrong code in her hast. But at last the door clicked. Still having an amount of difficulty, Pepper grabbed the door handle and swung the door open. She nearly stumbled in, spotting him doing whatever it was that he did on those touch screen computers of his. "Tony, Phil came by and dropped off a bunch of papers that you need to look through. It's about that Avengers program, I believe." She told him, coming over, nearly stumbling under the weight of the papers, once again.
She had been about to hand the papers to him when she remembered his peeve of being handing things, he hated it. She rolled her eyes and plopped the papers down in front of him. "You have a lot of homework," she told him with a gentle wry and teasing smile. Her grey-blue eyes sparkled slightly as she watched his face looking for any sign of emotion to flicker across his brown eyes. She wanted to know what he thought of this Avengers program and about this stake of papers sitting in front of him.
Months earlier, Pepper had nearly resigned from being the CEO of Stark Industries after Whiplash's machines had blown up and she'd saved by Tony at the last moment. She had had enough, but somehow Tony had convinced her to stay, she didn't really remember that part of the conversation but somehow she was still here working for Tony at the Stark Industries. She sighed slightly and glanced at Tony, "Are you going to look it through or not? I'm sure Fury would want you to."
She'd said the part about Fury to irritate him as she knew he couldn't care less what Director Nicholas Fury did, but she was just trying to get him to look through those papers. She wanted him to join this Avengers Initiative, as he didn't 'play well with others' and was 'self-obsessed' and Pepper Potts was hoping that joining this program would somehow help him to get over his self-obsession, which she did have to admit did go too far sometimes.
Pepper came around his desk and sat down on his lap. She kissed his cheek and began to flip through the files herself. "It won't be that hard, Tony, it's just the files on the people you'll be working with. Oh look, Natasha Romanoff," said Pepper holding up the file, "You remember her don't you? She went by Natalia Rushman." She glanced at him then back at the files. "Hmmm....Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Broden Winters, Hailey Heart, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff...those are the other Avengers...and then you have two other files on Sam Winters and Amelia Smith, they are two of the newer agents that will be working with the Avengers as it says in here...." Pepper spoke almost absentmindedly as she flipped through the files. "Phil took a special trip over here to deliver these, so I suggest you look them over."

In his office, Tony was going over the latest blue prints of the new armor he’ll make in a couple of weeks. He had the Mark I to the Mark V to the new Mark VI but Tony knew he couldn’t stop making new suits. It was like an obsession with them and he needed it to fight the bad guys, the same suit would never work.Each of them were different, having upgrades here and there. The government and even the army would never have it. It wasn’t a toy or something to play with, it’s for Tony’s own use, nothing reckless though. He learned that the hard way at times. Then he heard the doors open, hearing Pepper’s voice as he smiled looking up from the blueprints to her. Lately, these two have become an item, more as a couple which came to a shock when it was announced on Tumblr.
She went on and on about The Avengers Initiative that Fury presented to Stark. Tony did not want to join his boy band the first time around. But what if he did? Of course he would have to put up with a lot people. Such as Captain America, the so called leader of the team. What was it that everyone liked about a guy who dresses in red, white and blue? As the files were given to him, he looked them over, then felt Pepper sitting on his lap, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Tony smirked, looking at Virginia before returning the favor by kissing her lips softly. “Mmmm…” he mumbled. “Can’t any of this stuff wait? I rather have you all to myself in our bedroom”, he said and asked honestly. Tony loved Pepper and always loved expressing himself to her in private whenever they were alone.

Pepper arched a brow at him. "Tony, when you finish your homework then maybe we can do something like that," she smirked slightly as she brushed the golden hair from her face as her eyes met his. She smirked lightly at him. "You are doing this Avengers program, Tony. It will do you good.

Tony frowned and groaned. "I don't like homework...it's boring and there's nothing to do", he sighed. This whole group thing was starting to get to Tony. Why did he have to get himself involved? And wasn't he a consultant of the group? Not like an exact member? Seems like SHIELD and Fury are desperate to have Tony on there little team. But maybe Pepper is right, maybe this would do him so good. How though? Tony did not know anyone on the team. Ok maybe Natasha but the rest? Not really. He looked back up at Pepper and knew she would object but Tony decided to distract her. What did he do? Placed his hand on her back, rubbing it slowly, up and down, giving her comfort and maybe....a little excitement.
"I mean why me though? You know I am one man a show and I prefer to work alone", he explained to his girlfriend. It was true, Tony does not play well with others. Just ask Rhodey, he knew at his birthday party, even though Tony was drunk, he could never do it with someone. "I mean look at the team Pepper. You have a thunder of a god, two newbies, a super soldier, two deadly assassins, and a man that has anger issues. Where do I fit in?", he said and asked her. The Avengers can have major problems. A lot of ego's in the team and no one can get along, all hell will break loose. Tony would say, 'you see? This is why I don't want to be a part of the team'. "Why do you think I should join Pepper? What's good in it for me?" , he asked
