Steven Rogers allowed a sigh to slip through his lips. He was going on a mission...with Hailey Heart. He felt horrible for what had happened at the party and had cursed himself many times over for it. He bit his lip causing blood to override his senses and he spat it onto the ground. He wished he could just go alone but knew that wouldn't be an option. He clipped his shield onto his back and just got ready for whatever they would have to do on this mission as he ran a hand through his sandy blonde hair, his orbs of cobalt blue flickering around, looking for the woman who had once been the only person he could see himself having a future with...but that had all changed.

Hailey had a mission, and she dreaded who her partner was. Steve Rogers. She had once loved him with everything, but that had stopped after he chose someone else over her. But she was glad, if he hadn't she would have never met Bruce....The last time she had spoken with Steve had been when he slapped her at the party. There was a small bruise on the side of her face from that, and it hurt on contact, though she would never admit it...
She pulled her shield on over her back and moved to the mirror. This mission would be hard. It would be just like old times. Except, no it wouldn't.... She sighed and headed down to where she knew Steve was. She knocked on the door frame and leaned on it. "You ready Rogers?" She said in a clear voice, the fist three words she had said to him since he hit her...

Her voice set pain in his eyes and he pushed the door open. "...I'm sorry..." he said dully, refusing to meet her eyes as he made sure his shield was strapped tightly to his back, running a hand through his blonde hair. His blue eyes downcast reading the ground with as much fascination as a child at a meeting about the constitution.

She stepped into his room, snapping in the last catch on her shield. She had used to always ask him for help on because she could quite reach. The edge of her suit drifted down slightly, realving the teeth scars from Victor from when she had saved his live, only for as soon as he woke, for him to throw her away...
The memory hurt...
She shook her head, a small, sad, twitch really. She tucked her hair behind her ear, flinching slightly as her fingers brushed her cheek. She wondered if Steve had seen it yet, she had kept her face turned from him. She said two small words: "Don't be...." She couldn't meet his eyes..

Steve sighed. "I can't not be..." He told her with a sigh. He knew he didn't love her as he once had, but he would still give his life for her, whether she wanted him to or not. Of course she didn't want him to but he would anyhow. Then again Steve would give his life for a lot of people he knew. Sam. Hailey. Broden. Amelia. The other Avengers...well with the exception of Stark.. Because they were his friends even if he didn't like them sometimes.

She didn't look at him, instead looked at a small trinket that looked so familiar. Then she remembered. She had given it to him shortly before she went to Belgium. She held back the small tear forming in her eye. She blinked it away as she picked it up. "You kept it?" She asked in a soft voice as she held it up.
It was a small eagle carving, she had made it herself. The pain was long since faded, and it was chipped to hell, but she knew it was the same one. She had carved her initials into the bottom, and his on the top. It was a symbol of them being a team. She smiled softly, setting it down gently. "I...I remember making that... I stabbed my fingers so many times..." She laughed halfheartedly, trying to lighten the mood...

Steve watched as she picked up the trinket. He shrugged and nodded slightly when she spoke. "Of course I did." He gave her a small smile. "Did you think I'd throw it away?" He would never do that, no matter how far apart they were. It reminded him of the times when they were stuck together like glue. It reminded him of her when she had been transported to Belgium, leaving him alone.
He sighed. "Hailey...I know this changes nothing, but I didn't mean to hit you...if I could take it back I would in a moment. I also know that sorry will never be enough...but I can't say anything other then I'm sorry Hailey, truly I am."

She smiled when he said he would keep it. It was a reminder of simpler times. She hoped it helped him while she was away, because she knew, at the time, it was unbearable. Then again...they had never told him she wasn't actually dead..but he also never asked...She pushed the thought away. She knew it would have saved him heart break...but then again, it also meant she may have never met Bruce.
She didn't want to think that.
She looked over at Steve and took a few steps towards him. "Steve, sorry is enough. It was an accident. I understand." She reached out and hugged him. "Trust me. Sorry, from you, is enough." She said softly as she hugged him.
