Name - Silence Character Name(s) - Amelia Blake , John Blake Word Count - 904 A contented sigh lifted into the chilled air before her. She closed her eyes and breathed in the salty scent of the ocean as the wind whipped her hair back, the waves of honeysuckle golden flapping in the wind. She breathed in the air, enjoying the moment. However it was short lived. A sound, a prickle of boots on gravel, escalated behind her. Goose bumps shot up across her arms, a shudder went down the length of her spine. Fear turned every particle of blood running through her veins to ice. It was cold, so cold; her breath vaporized instantly and took nearly ten ticks of the watch on her wrist to vanish. The nose came closer, louder. She couldn’t turn; she was frozen to the ground. Her hands shook, gripping the iron bar separating her from the raging ocean as the waves cracked against the stone. She squeezed her eyes shut, goose bumps rippling across her skin.
Her eyes flew open, the presence of a hand lingering over her shoulder. She whipped around, her fist connecting with the nose of the man behind her. She ducked as she swung at her, shooting around him, shoving out her leg and driving his out from under him. He fell with a thud and she ran. Sparrow never ran - never. But fear had taken root inside of her, her thoughts screaming for her to turn around and face this man; this man with the power to induce fear into the heads of others.
Her legs pumped as she ran, her breath coming in short gasps, but above her gasps she could hear him coming closer. She tried to run faster, but her legs gave out and she stumbled, tripping and falling, her skin getting cut by the sharp gravel as she rolled, landing in a heap, chest heaving. She looked up at the man, shaking her head. “No…no please…go away…” She pleaded, trying to get up but she was unable as his hand reached down and grabbed her arm, yanked her to her feet and slammed a rock into the side of her head, causing her to go limp in his arms….
Sometime later, probably hours later, Amelia awoke. She jerked into sitting position, looking around fear in her eyes. Where are you? She thought, eyes flickering about. She swallowed, her through was dry. A door was thrown up, slamming against the wall, dust and dirt raining down from the ceiling and in the dim light Amelia got her first look at her kidnapper. His chest was broad, his shoulders were large and muscular and his eyes…his eyes were corrupting…ominous…glowing…and deep, blood red. Amelia jerked away from him, her eyes wide, and her heart hammering in her chest. She scooted back, right into a corner.
The door closed. The room was plunged into darkness; a darkness that threatened to stamp out every last ounce of light on Earth. It sucked the hope right from Amelia’s heart, leaving her shivering with a cold irrational fear that she had never felt before. She hadn’t even been this afraid after the incident with Liam and his gang. That had been a little prickle of fear compared to this. This fear filed her up, her body shaking with each stomp of a foot. She cringed at each creak. She felt her heart jolt at each twist of the shadows. For mere moments everything was still, silent. Amelia sat still, her eyes darting around, fear radiating off of her. A voice sounded in her ear, the breath tickling her ear, alcohol burning her nostrils, along with the sooty tang of cigarette smoke on the man’s breath and a blood curdling scream curled into the crisp air.
---
Not much later the door was thrown open and a shaking Amelia whirled around pointing her knife at the familiar face that had entered. The knife clattered to the ground as she slipped to her knees, soft tears trickling down her face as she trembled with the fear that coursed through her body. She enveloped into a strong hug as her husband hugged her to him. She felt his lips on her head.
“Shhh it’s alright beautiful…it’s alright I’m right here, no one’s going to hurt you,” He murmured into her ear, running a soothing hand up and down her back, clutching her trembling figure close to his chest, concern shown in his muddy eyes. She tuned her sensitive hearing into the beating of his strong heart. Listening to it calmed her and quieted her shaking. She took a deep breath and let him hold her. She let him tilt her head up, allowed her sapphire orbs to meet his concerned eyes of muddy brown. A smile trembled on her lips as she tried to reassure John Blake that she was alright. His gently fingers brushed away the strand of golden that had fallen into her face, the tips of his fingers lingering against her cheek before he tucked the hair behind her cheek. He gently pressed his lips to hers. Her eyes slid closed and she kissed him back, wrapping her arms around his neck, playing her fingers through his hair. In his arms she felt safe and after a while her fear left her, but she knew that next time she was alone in a pitch black room it wouldn't take long for the fear to settle back into her bones…
