Hailey Wayne sat in the living room of Wayne Manor. She sat happily on the couch. She was hoping her husband would join her soon.
Her boys, Alexander and James, were at school. Well, Alex was. James was home schooled, he had insisted, as he had almost had an incident at school after being called a freak, thought Hailey had always told him he wasn't. In fact, so had little Alyss Blake.
So, Alex was at school, in the same class as Alyss, and James was somewhere in the house. He never took his school work seriously, at least not when Hailey would walk into his room where he was supposed to be studying.
Or, James was walking to the school. He always walked little Alyss home. He was a gentleman like his father. Hailey smiled more, adjusting on the couch to get more comfortable.
Their friend, Alexi, a journalist, had sent them a gift. A book, the title, one that was a definite attention grabber. The red bolded words in an attractive fount. Heroes Arise
She had interviewed them all to get it. Every single on of them, describing in detail any experience she asked for. Hailey was quite glad they had not been asked to reenact anything. There would have been several disparagement among multiple parties.
She smiled faintly and waited for her husband to come join her. She was curled up in the corner of the couch, a blanket wrapped around her.

Bruce had been looking for his son, James when he found the book. It was sitting on his son's dresser which made him raise an eyebrow. James never read. Never. Alex was the bookworm and didn't care who knew it. He frowned slightly as he picked up the book, glancing at the clock. He smirked. It was about time for school to let out, James would be walking little Alyss Blake home from school. What a gentleman, he thought somewhat cockily, just like me."
He turned his dark eyes back to the book in his large hands as he flipped it open, arching a brow when it fell open onto a story titled, Time to Meet the Destroyer. His eyes browsed the page, he wasn't really reading until he saw that oh so familiar name. Hailey Heart.
So, standing there in his thirteen year old son's room, Bruce Wayne read the whole story. He was not pleased. "So that's what happened that night! " He exclaimed in slight irritation, but of course his anger was directed to Sullivan Mortissimo, Sinestro and Victor Veloci. He turned and walked down stairs, his feet creaking the wooden steps. " Those bastards," he grumbled to himself as he walked towards the living room where he spotted his wife. Hailey jumped as her husband entered the room. He was holding another copy of the book. She eyed it suspiciously. Seeing a fine print on the spine, she could tell it was Alyss'.
She shifted the blanket over her feet, a draft coming from the window. A soft golden-blonde eyebrow lifted on her face. "Which one? A lot of bastards have taken a swing at me." She rubbed her shoulder where an old wound from a raptor bite still pained her occasionally.
She let her hand fall back into her lap, her copy of the book still unopened in her lap. She tucked her hair behind her ear and patted the cousin beside her.
She was really starting to wonder which on he had read. Was it when Steve broke her heart in the hospital, was it one of her various missions before she was frozen? Was it when she was frozen? Was it Victor's, Sully's, and Sinny's attack? She didn't know, but she wanted to so she could tell him she was fine.
She lifted her blanket up for him as well, the cool air raising goosebumps on her warmed skin.

Bruce sat beside her, the couch dipping slightly. He politely rejected the blanket and put it over her making sure the cold couldn't get to her. He showed her the title of the one he'd read, still grumbling to himself. "What were you thinking?! Taking on the three of them!? " He scolded, his eyes narrowing into slits as his anger to the three villains grew. His anger was also directed at Steve, he knew what the captain had done to Hailey and the Batman hated Rogers for it. He knew that he'd probably never forgive Captain America for breaking Hailey's heart. But part of him thanked the soldier, for if he hadn't Bruce never would have met Hailey. Hailey. His wife. If he hadn't met Haliey then he wouldn't have two wonderful children. He frowned at the thought of not having the three of them in his life. [/blockquote]

With a soft sigh she rotated over. She put the blanket over him anyway and leaned on his shoulder. She knew there was still the faint outlining of the raptor scars over her shoulder from where the Raptor had bitten her, and there was still a white, star-shaped scar on her left side from the Destroyer's dagger.
She sighed. How many people would ask her that question? "They insulted me, the Avengers, and were killing a lot of innocent civilians..." She muttered and looked up at him.
She smiled faintly. She had always loved his dark, near black eyes. So much more... original...than the azure blue of Steve Rogers. His dark chocolate brown hair, to Hailey was better than the sandy blonde locks of the Captain. In her opinion, everything about Bruce was better, though once in her life she may not have believed that to be the case.
But Rogers had snapped her heart, and she was glad he had. Without that, she never would have met the man she loved with all her heart. She never would have had two amazing boys, and according to a certain future seer, a daughter at some point, she didn't want to picture her life without them. She would rather go back to being frozen then live without them...

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "The Avengers were killing innocent people?" He asked arching a brow, not understanding her statement as his mind was overcome with rage at the three villains. If he ever saw them he'd give them a good beating. But he wouldn't kill them. No matter how much he wanted to. However he was unaware that one of the men was someone John had killed...to save Amelia.
Bruce sighed, "I'm glad you're okay though... " He pressed his lips to her head, gently holding her against him. A small breeze, carrying gripping fingers of icy cold, drifted through the window, cracked open to let in the fresh air. He ran his fingers through her hair and made sure she was covered by the blanket so the chilly air wouldn't touch her skin. [/blockquote]

She smiled faintly at his confusion. "No. the villains were killing people." She said softly, sliding her arm around his waist. She enjoyed his company. She always had. Why was he getting all angry again, she didn't know. It had all happened before they met, in a way, it was the reason why they met.
She turned her head and kissed his shoulder. "Bruce, this happened before we met, granted not long before, but it was still over twelve years ago. I'm fine." She assured him gently, but she occasionally she would still get pain from all of her older injuries. But, she would never tell Bruce this. She shivered slightly and slipped more of the blanket over her husband so he would be warm too.
