Dick sat in the living room as he finished up some paper work for the Bludhaven Police Department. He liked working here than at the station since he has to put up with criminals and even some of the cops giving him a dirty look. It did not surprise the young detective, because unlike them Dick works his behind off every time, always finding the solutions to cases that no other cop/detective would find. The man was trained by the best and he always would answer their questions on “How do you know this?” and Dick’s answer… ”Bruce trained me” .
Then he heard a knock on his door as he put the paper work down on the coffee table. He got up and walks over to it before looking into the small circle, seeing Commissioner Gordon, Babs father. This was a surprise to Dick and wonder what he was doing here…was it Barbara? If anything happen to Babs, Jim would be the first person to tell Dick. Clearing his throat, Dick opened the door as he saw the older man. “Ah Commissioner hello, what brings you by?”, Dick asked.

Jim had been planning this meeting for a while now. Death wasn't an easy subject for the older man and it pained him to have to make such a visit. He was doing it for his daughter. She needed someone there to support her when he was gone. He sighed as he pulled up to Dick's house in Bludhaven. He, with difficulty thanks to his aching knees and back, left the car, shutting the door and locking it behind him, walking up to the front door and knocking upon it.
He offered the boy a quick smile when he saw him. "There are a few things I'd like to speak to you about...most of which regarding Barbara." He sighed, frowning. He wasn't sure how to start, so he just wasn't going to say more until Dick had a chance to speak first.

With his reason for coming here, Dick was not that all surprised. Grayson knew this was coming and it was better to talk about it now. "Sure Commissioner, come in", he told him as Dick let Jim come into his home before closing the door behind him. If Babs was here, she would tell her father that Dick would not hurt her but he didn't mind at all. The two of them went to the living room of Grayson's home before he sat down on a chair and motioned for the Commissioner to sit and relax, get comfortable.
Dick sat and leaned back as he waited for Jim to talk. Grayson would not run away from this and be a coward. He would just take it like a man and wait for Gordan to speak his man. Besides what does he have to fear? Jim was a father first and loves her daughter, Dick has even seen that when he comes to see Babs. But he knew Jim was aging and not the same man he saw growing up when he was out on patrol. Grayson still waited for Jim to speak and there was no rush, the young man has all day.

Jim thanked the boy with a nod and entered the house. He knew that Babs probably wouldn't have agreed with this meeting considering most of it concerned his death. He didn't enjoy talking about it much either to tell the truth, but he needed to know that Dick understand what Jim expected of the boy once the commissioner died. He saw no reason in avoiding the conversation, it had been inevitable just as his death was. He sat when Dick offered him a chair, leaning his aching back against the soft surface.
The commissioner sighed and started, "I'm sure you already know but, I'm getting older and one of these days, whether it comes quickly or not, I will no longer be able to be there for Barbara..., he sighed once more. "When I'm gone, I'll need you to be there for her, through the good, the bad and the ugly."

With no hesitation, Jim told him about the possibility of him not being there for Barbara but that when he's gone...he'll need Dick to be there for her through everything. It was sad to be quite honest, that a man like Jim Gordon was aging so much and he might not live to even make it to her daughter's wedding. He wondered if this was his parents, would they be there for him? Yes, they're gone and no longer in the land of the living but still...if Zucco had not taken his parents lives, how would they react to Barbara? His father would welcome Barbara with open arms but his mom was a different story. Like Jim, she would be protective of her baby boy and make sure Babs doesn't hurt him.
With Jim finished, Dick sighed a bit and nods his head. "I understand Comissioner. I will be there for Barbara through thick and thin. I love her and I wouldn't let anything tragic happen to her, you have my word" , he said, confirming the older man's request. Even if he was not Barbara's boyfriend, Dick would still be there for her because of their friendship too. The day he found out that Barbara was Batgirl, he couldn't believe it. Or when he first met Babs on the rooftop where him and Bruce would meet Jim when the Bat Signal was on. Now he was Babs boyfriend but felt it being a tougher task. Dick would not give up on her, no matter what the situation was from time to time.

Jim watched Dick's face as he spoke, it remained blank as the words poured from the commissioner's mouth. He trusted this boy, he had just needed to make sure that Dick knew what was expected of him. Gordon didn't know what was in store for him he just hoped that he would be around to walk his daughter down the aisle, it was every parent's dream...and nightmare. They wondered, Jim espiecally, if their little girl would take into thought all the lessons that had been taught through the years. Jim had no doubt that Babs, if the time ever came, would be a wonderful wife and a brilliant mother. There was no doubt in his head.
He nodded, feeling a bit better that he had gotten that off his chest. But there were a few things that he always needed to say. "There's another thing that I needed to speak to you about." He sighed, it was also about Barbara. "When I die, Barbara is going to be extremely depressed, we both know that, I want you to do all you can to make sure that she doesn't do anything that would result in her hurting herself. That also means that I need you to make sure that she doesn't go out as Batgirl. Promise me that."

Dick heard of the commissioner’s next request and it was about Barbara but some kind of twist. If Jim did die then Babs would be depressed and to not have her go out as Batgirl. All could Dick do was remember the time when everyone (Dick, Bruce, Tim, Babs, and the others) thought they lost Jason Todd for good, due to The Joker getting his hands on him and beating him to a bloody pulp, then as Bruce arrived the warehouse that Jason was in exploded, resulted in Jason Todd dead…as everyone thought. Dick could never forget about Bruce was, just so dark and more twisted, it took him and the others accompanying him to patrols at night so he wouldn’t go too far. There was no way Dick would let that happen to Barbara, not the love of his life.
Dick nodded his head in confirmation, looking at Jim in approval. “You have my word commissioner, Barbara will NOT be going out as Batgirl. I will do my best to help her and make sure she’s not getting worse but at the same time others like Bruce, Tim, myself and Alfred will be there to help her. So I am not the only one around here”, he said to the commissioner, promising him in the events of Jim’s death, Babs wouldn’t’ go anything stupid or to the extreme. He did not want her to be like Bruce, so dark and twisted, just the Babs that everyone understood and knew very well. Sometimes being a hero could take a lot out of the regular person from time to time. If a situation got worse then the hero would go out and try to numb the pain but would not work well.
