As soon as Barbara went into the bathroom to get the First Aid Kit, Dick with is other hand started to remove the attire of Nightwing. But he did it carefully, deciding not to remove all of it but the upper part so that Barbara can heal the wounds that were hurt near his ribs, where the bullet was as well. That’s all he could do at this point but if Barbara came back just now and saw him like this, she would scold him for trying to move which would make the bleeding more worse. That’s where the clear plastic sheet came in, so the blood wouldn’t get on the sheets though, because Barbara would be so PO’ed at her boyfriend for making a mess.
Dick sighed, leaning back on one of the pillow of their bed, and looked up at the ceiling, starting to think about the promise that Jim Gordon gave to Dick months ago before Babs went missing. Then it hit Dick, it if he had died here tonight, Barbara would be depressed and loose control, doing something reckless, and even dangerous. Then maybe Barbara would end up in a jail cell…no…stop thinking like that Dick, he thought to himself. The only thing that matters is that Dick is here right now with his lover, his girlfriend of so many years, and he wouldn’t let go of her until his last dying breath.

Barbara hurried along with the First Aid Kit, slipping back out of the bathroom. "Dick!" She scolded when she saw him moving. She went to his side and lightly smacked his hand for him to stop. She frowned lightly at him as she moved her fingers softly to his face. She smiled seeing he had forgotten to remove his mask. Her fingers gently pulled it over, setting it on the bed beside them. She softly traced her fingers down his nose and across his lips. "Don't strain yourself." She whispered from where she sat still in her full suit.
She softly placed her hand in his, giving him something to hold onto while she worked. She gently worked on removing the bullet, cleaning the wound. As she worked, her emerald eyes never left her task before her. Her fingers never stopped working over the wound. Her attention never faltered as she worked.

“I wasn’t trying to strain myself, just trying to make it easy so you can get the bullet out”, he whispered back to Barbara. Just as Dick knew, she scolded him and it was no surprise for the adoptive son of Bruce and Hailey Wayne. Maybe Dick was trying to be stubborn and thinking he could do it by himself, but that would make him selfish, but Grayson knew that too. Barbara’s touch comforted him, made him more relaxed, even though he could still feel the pain of the wound, which still hurt like hell. “I’ll let you do the work doc”, he whispered at Barbara who was still in her suit.
Dick did not move while Barbara performed on removing the bullet. He just looked at her and the wound, not even saying a word. He did not want to distract Babs any further or even try to move, if he did, then Barbara would probably tie him to the bed post so he won’t get out of bed. It reminded Dick about all the times Alfred would stitch him up when Bruce, John and Dick himself came back patrols. Alfred has experience in the field before he became a butler for The Wayne Family. If Alfred was here right now, he would tell Dick to stay still and get some rest.

Barbara continued to work on it, finally removing the bullet. When she did, she held it in her hand as she stitched up his side very gently. All she wanted was to help him. All she wanted to was was make sure he would live. She stitched the wound carefully with a skilled hand. She had not had Alfred, and had stitched most of her wounds herself - which would probably explain all of her scars.
She softly leaned over and kissed his cheek gently. "You're not to move..." She whispered gently. She softly stood and removed the lower half of his suit for him - very gently. She stored it all away in the closet, leaving him in the bed in only his boxers. She was still in her full suit. She went back to his side. "Is there anything else that hurts?" She asked very gently, still only caring about the man that lay before her on the bed.

“Yes Nurse Gordon” he teased Barbara, whispering gently right back at her. He knew Barbara was serious and he would not move out of the bed or even try to move at all. The man will let his guard down and let Barbara take good care of him. He would not shun her out of his life or try to pretend to be this macho man, like Dick is so strong and tough, that is NOT him. Dick touched Barbara’s cheek softly, caressing it, and smiled at her. It was like they didn’t have to worry about anything else right now, because this is what lovers are all about ; love, protectiveness, looking out for each other.
“No, just the wound that you helped heal. But thank you Barbara for making me feel better, and I mean that”, he told her. Leaning over, Dick kissed his girlfriend, showing her his affections for Barbara Gordon. After all this time, it was like the incident that happened a couple of minutes ago didn’t, because the two of them were passed that. Now all that Dick could do was just relax, but at the same time maybe Dick shouldn’t go back to work. His boss and the other officers would just demand, asking Dick what happened to him so they can go after the scum bag.

Barbara softly kissed him back, gently stroking his cheek. Then she pulled away, pushing him back softly on the bed. "I said don't move." She said with a slight tease. She kissed his forehead and slowly rose from the bed. She smiled and yawned, heading to the bathroom, telling him she was going to change.
She slipped into the bathroom to change. She stripped off her suit, the cool air in the room making her feel better as she was sweaty in her suit. She wiped her hair and ran a brush through it, slipping back into the red silk night gown. She yawned again and slipped back into the room with Dick, walking around to the other side of the bed and laying down with a wince.

“I won’t move Barbara, I promise. Cross my heart”, he teased her back before she kissed his forehead, then went in the bathroom to change. Dick wanted to follow Barbara into the bathroom and give her comfort, but it’s better to stay in bed. He didn’t want the wound getting worse than it already is before Barbara took the bullet out and he doesn’t want any blood dripping on the floor. Then Barbara would be really mad and she would have a fight. But if he somehow died tonight, Barbara would never recover, that’s why Dick had to tell her what her father said to him.
Then he saw Barbara coming back with her red silk night gown, going to the other side of the bed, laying down with him, but he heard the wince. Dick wasn’t the only one a little bruised and hurt, but the both of them survived it tonight. As a hero, you sacrifice everything for the people you love the most, even if it’s your girlfriend or boyfriend. Whenever Bruce sacrificed his life to protect Hailey, Alex, James and so forth, there was no fear in his eyes, he would accept what fate would choose him. “Barbara…may I tell you something?”, he asked as he looked into her eyes.

Barbara turned her head to look at him. What could he possibly have to say that he had to ask permission to tell her something. "Of course." She said gently, wincing in pain as she had turned her head to look at him. She moved her hand softly to his, slipping her fingers in between his and holding his hand very softly.

“It was about your dad”, he started to tell her before he continued. “This was after you went missing for the past couple of months Barbara. He came by to visit me and wanted to talk to me, so we talked. Everything was good for us and he wanted me to make sure that I will be there for you if one day he dies. I told him, of course I will be there for her because I love her a lot and I care for you as well”, he said to Babs. Holding her close, he winced a bit, and knew he had to finish what happened on that day. “There was something else he needed my promise on…and that was about you”, he looked into her eyes. A part of him wanted to keep this to himself but he couldn’t keep it inside anymore.
“He told me that in the event of your dad’s death, you’re going to be extremely depressed, and that he doesn’t want you to do anything worse to get yourself hurt”, he said to her. “He wanted me to promise him that I…I won’t…let you go out as Batgirl”, he told her before a sigh came from his lips, still not keeping his eyes off of Barbara still. This was tough for Dick to tell his girlfriend but he wanted her to be the first to know, keeping no secrets from her. “To be honest, he has a point Barbara. If your dad died, you need time to heel and understand, you don’t need to go out there and do something stupid. I don’t…I don’t want to loose you sweetheart”, he said to her honestly.

Barbara sighed as he said it was about her father. She nodded, knowing her father meant well, but it drove her crazy. She wasn't five any more. She sighed and gave his hand a squeeze, gently pulling her hand from his. She sat up with a wince and stood, walking to the door. "I know he means well, but honestly? Leave me with nothing to do?" She shook her head. She left the room.
Walking out, she went to the kitchen. Once there she grabbed a glass, filling it with ice. She sighed and grabbed a bottle of whisky from the top of the fridge. She poured it over the ice and drank it quickly. She hated talking about the possibility of her father dying. The liquor burned in her throat as she swallowed. She sighed and leaned against the counter, one tear on her face.

Dick could hear the disappointment in her voice, like she was sick and tired of hearing what her father had to say. He saw her get up and leave the bedroom, heading off for the kitchen, and Dick cursed himself for opening his big mouth. He knew that Barbara was not upset at him, but at her father, which he could understand why. If Dick’s parents were still alive, they would never let him become Nightwing as a teenager but as an adult, they would not force him to step down, because they would understand his role as a hero to the people of the city. Grayson wished he could make it up to Barbara, by holding her, kissing her, telling Barbara that everything will be alright. But it won’t be if Jim died, and Dick could not pretend of something like that. Dick wanted to go after her but it was better to stay put in bed, to not make the wound any worse.

Barbara sighed and poured herself another drink. She knocked it back and winced. Did she really have to drink? Maybe not...but as her mind went fuzzy, it actually helped clear her mind. She sighed and had yet another drink. She sighed again as she poured another glass. She drank it too. She couldn't think about losing her father. He was one of the only two people that she really cared about, and that really impacted her life. She didn't want to think about what would happen if she lost him. She had lost him once as a little girl. She wouldn't do that again. Not after only having him back for such a short time.
After another two or three glasses of whisky, she put it all away, stumbling back towards the bedroom. She walked in, using the door frame for support and lead herself along the walls to the bed. She laid down, a sweat on her brow, several tear stains on her face. She hid her face in the pillow and just cried.

The sounds of footsteps can be heard through Dick's ear, as he looked at the bedroom door. He can see Barbara coming in, using the door frame for example, stumbling as Dick's eyes open. That can only mean one thing: Barbara was drinking as Dick sighed and groaned a bit. He should of got up and followed Babs to the kitchen, to make sure she didnt' go overboard but he didn't, Dick just remained in bed. He thought that Barbara would hold it in together and not do anything dangerous, but she is her own woman, she can do whatever she wants. He only wished Barbara wouldn't push her away for times like this, and let him help her through this time. But it looks like Babs was going to be fine for the rest of the night.
He saw Barbara lay down on the bed, seeing the tears on her face, the sweat from her brown. Dick pulled the covers over himself and Barbra as he brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear. "It's alright Barbara, i'm here for you in anyway I can support you", he said to her softly. He knew the promise he made to Commissioner Gordon about making sure she wasn't Batgirl when Jim died, but Dick did not know he could deliver. He couldn't stop Barbara from doing whar she loves to do best, not going to college or whatever, it all started with Batgirl. Grayson would push Barbara away from being Batgirl, and in turn destroying his relationship with her. For now, Dick just wanted to relax and forget about the night.

Barbara turned away from him, hiding her face in the pillow. She didn't want to think about losing her father. Not this night or any other night. She kept her face hidden as her fists curled in the sheets. The whisky burned in her stomach, and set her brain on fire. She hardly heard him through the pillow. She turned her head to speak, only her mouth coming out of the fluff of the pillows. "You're going to have to speak louder boy wonder..." She said with another wince, turning her head back into the pillow to hide. She coughed on the burning sensation. It was a long time since she had drank - especially that much.

Barbara drank too much tonight and Dick let that happend, he didn't get up from the bed to stop her and she would probably do too much of it tonight. He could even see it in her eyes, just not thinking about the death of her father. No one should go through that and Dick felt like he let her father down by telling Babs what Jim said. He was only trying to look out for her, not do any more damage to her. "I said I am hear for you Barbara in anyway I can support", he said to Barbara, clear and not soft, but he wanted her to hear him. "If I was pushing you...I am sorry...I was just...trying to look out for you", he said to her and sighed.
