Shadow and the lantern (Aj)

The day was lovely on this particular day with the sun shining brightly but to Jax it was not such a lovely day as she always preferred the rainy days where the clouds were grey and the city looked darker. She always found it easier to blend in when its darker and people had other things to think about but sunny days it seemed as if people opened up and became more friendly and it was quite difficult for her to blend in the shadows then.

She tucked some of her blond hair behind her ears and pulled up the hood of her sweater and put her earplugs on as she wandered off to her favorite coffee shop to get her daily fix of caffeine. She smiled as she saw some young couples holding theirs hands and children playing in the sunshine. " Hello .. um double chocolate and caramel latte please " she said softly as she looked around the store.

She smoothed her shirt down and nibbled on her bottom-lip a bit roughly as she wasn't too sure what to expect of this day but she did hope that it wasn't going to be dramatic or that someone found out about her ability.

AJ finished up tying up some crooks with some lantern rope after they tried to rob a bank in New York, but unfortunately they failed like always. The Green Lantern arrived on the scene and quickly stopped it which is good but AJ felt like he didn’t have time for that. AJ has a date later on tonight with Helena and he wanted to get some stuff before heading out but it wasn’t like afternoonish or late at night. So AJ decided to get a cup of coffee but before he could leave, AJ saw the cops pulling up to the bank. When one cop came running up, AJ raised one hand. “It’s alright, it’s over. These are the ones who started this so I will let you guys handle it”, he told them before The Green Lantern took to the skies, leaving the bank. AJ decided to get a cup of coffee and he knew one coffee shop that has the best.

When AJ found it, he lands right in front of the coffee shop. That’s when AJ heard everyone outside of the shop calling out The Green Lantern, kids saying hi, etc. AJ looks at them before he smiles and waves before heading inside of the coffee shop. AJ got the same reaction, this time with people taking pictures of AJ coming in the shop, wanting to even sign some autographs. “Alright alright folks, easy there now”, he chuckled as a green pen came out of his ring and started to sign some autographs. He never had a problem doing this and he’s a hero, AJ has to give back to the community. When AJ was finished, he went up to the counter, standing next to the woman he didn’t even notice, and looked at the menu at the top. “I’ll have a vanilla latae please with some brown sugar”, he said.

Jax looked over at the news on the tv screen at the coffee shop and sighed heavily as it was about some horrible robbery " when will men stop with this needless violence and crime " she said softly to herself as she fished out some money from her pocket to pay for her coffee. She really was getting tired of this violence that was all around but she knew better than to think that it would end anytime soon as it was in mankind's nature to hurt ,to take and to kill for what they wanted. she grabbed her coffee and sipped it " thank you . its perfect as always miss " she smiled as she looked around to find an empty table to sit down and enjoy her coffee.

She looked out the window as the tables were taken for now but she could wait as she had time for it. She smiled as she saw a young girl sharing a cookie with a boy that seemed to be the same age as the girl. She thought back to her own childhood and how she had her own childhood friend that would often steal her cookies, But then again Dylan would not have been Dylan if he didn't steal her cookies when they were young. The memory brought a smile to her face and a warm fuzzy feeling in her stomach. " how sweet children can be " she mumbled out softly.

She looked as some odd looking man seemed to get a lot of attention from the children and he signed some autographs for them as well but she had to admit she tried not to focus on people as it could lead to them noticing her. She simply smiled and turned around as she did not want to be caught staring at the man. She heard him order a latte with vanilla after a little while and smiled as it could be quite sometimes but she would always prefer her chocolate and caramel latte. " its quite the lovely day today "

When his cup of vanilla latte was finished and handed to him, AJ smiled at the person, who works at the coffee shop. “Thanks”, he said before taking a sip and that is when heard a woman next to him, saying it was a lovely day. “Yeah, it sure is but it’s going to get better later on for me”, he told her. AJ felt excited having his first dare with the Huntress when he comes to Gotham City. He already knew what Helena liked when it comes to food, so the restaurant that AJ found in Gotham would be perfect for him and Helena. AJ wouldn’t just wear his Green Lantern attire, no, because that would give his identity. So maybe after this AJ could go out and find the best place for men’s clothing, buy a suit, get a couple of other things he had on his mind, then he’s good to go.

Then AJ looked on the TV screen of the robbery over as it showed images of The Green Lantern saving the days and AJ smirked. “You see, that’s me on there. The robbery at the bank was nothing hard for me to deal with and besides, what do guys who act like robbers have? Nothing more but guns and mask”, he said to her before he forgot to introduce himself. “Oh my bad, that’s so rude of me. I’m The Green Lantern”, he told her, introducing himself to her. “I’m sure you have heard of The Green Lantern but I am not only the other Green Lantern on Earth, there’s a couple more that comes to mind”, he said to her. AJ didn’t know if she understood what a Green Lantern meant, but the guy didn’t mind explaining. She is brand new and AJ has never met her before.

Jax smiled and sighed softly as he said that it would get better for him later on. "Really is that so " She wasn't sure why it would get better for him but she assumed it had something to do with a lady. " well that is good for you then sir " she smiled kindly at him and took another sip of her latte. " you sure seem to like the attention though .. and the color green " she said softly and sighed a soft but content sigh as the caffeine calmed her nerves.She always tried to act as normal as possible so no one would suspect her of being a mutant.

Jax just looked at the screen and licked her lips as she wasn't sure what to say as he informed her that it was him on the screen. She nodded at the man and smiled softly " Well a man pushed to his limits can do amazing things, sometimes truly terrible things" she sighed softly and licks her lips as he talked more and seemed to want a conversation with her. "I'm Jax and don't worry about it " she said softly and looked at him " i must admit that i don't pay much attention to the news now a days .. it is too heartbreaking sometimes " she licked her lips roughly and sipped her latte more.

"Nice to meet you Jax", he said to her before hearing why Jax doesn't pay attention to news these days and AJ nodded his head. "I understand how you feel. Sometimes media can be distrustful and you don't know who you can count on. The news these days are just a joke compared to what happend back then when news was good, reliable and the reporters told the truth, so I now what you mean" he said to Jax. AJ's a reporter,journalist for the GSB, so like his father, he had a good voice of annoucing, bringing news that is not heard in other big outlets like Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc. but that's his normal job. As The Green Lantern, everyday he got criticized by the big heads in the media but is used to it.

"But I do know one guy who tries to keep it fair and balance but you know media these days, it's too stressful", he said to her. The Green Lantern was not trying to give away his idenity, but what he meant was that AJ Scott is a good person, someone who works hard, and tries to get a good story. AJ never sugarcoated anything when it came to the press, which he followed from his father. "But yeah, sometimes a guy that can do a lot of good things could do bad things as well...but for me, I know the responisbility I have as a hero to the people, not only of this Earth but in other places too", he told Jax. "I'm not the only hero in this world Jax, there's tons of them out there making a difference", he said to Jax.

"mhm it is nice to meet you too sir " she was not sure how long she could keep this conversation going as she mostly wanted to run back to her dorm-room and hide away with a good book but she knew that if she kept doing that then her roommates would certainly begin to wonder as to why she doesn't go out much. She listened to the man and smiled a bit more as she didn't mind him leading the conversation. "well i guess its all about getting the best story and i guess some would do thing less savory to turn a story into something amazing and eye-catching." she sipped her latte once again and looked around a bit more in the store as she didn't want any surprises right now.

"well at least there are some honest reporters , i hope that i will be one too one day when I'm done with my studies " she honestly couldn't remember the last time she had a conversation with someone for this long."well sometimes all it takes is one person to do something to inspire others, so other places as well then i guess you have a lot of work then " she smiled a soft but kind smile at him. "yes but for every hero there is a villain .. i honestly believe that violence only leads to more violence "

She smoothed down her shirt as she chewed on her bottom-lip as she was a bit nervous today as it was the anniversary of that day , the day she lost her best-friend Dylan as he had found out about her secret. She remembered how it hurt to hear him say that she was just a freak and that he did not want anything to do with freaks, but she found it quite ironic that on this day she might have made a new friend of some sorts.

“You’re right, with every hero, there is every villian. But at the same time, every hero steps up to defeat the bad guy in order to make sure not only this city is sage, but the world is safe too” ,AJ said to Jax. Becoming a part of the Green Lantern Corps, AJ knew there were other corps groups, such as the Blue Lantern Corps, The Red Lantern Corps, The White Lantern Corps, and yes, even The Yellow Lantern Corps. Thinking about that Yellow Corps made AJ cringe a bit, because he never like the groups, including Sinestro, the no good backstabber who tucked his tail between his legs and ran. AJ could never understand why a guy like Sinestro would even dare join The Yellow Corps. At the same time though, it’s a perfect fit for him because of the fear that brought along with it.

AJ then noticed Jax, she was nervous about something, like it was on her mind all of the sudden. “You okay?”, he asked her before taking a sip of his vanilla latte. “I know we just met…but you can tell me anything if you like…I am always an listening ear you know”, he told her. If AJ had something on his mind, he could always talk to his siblings, his father or allies of The Justice League. He would even go to his mother’s grave and talk to her in silence, getting everything off of his chest, and at the same time grieving because of his mother’s death. Rose and Throne were always going to be there in spirit for AJ through the good, the bad and the ugly too. But his mother wanted him to be strong and take the lead for the Scott family.
