Born with genetic mutations that give them abilities beyond those of normal humans, mutants are the next stage in evolution. As such, they are feared and hated by humanity. But a group of mutants known as the X-Men fight for peaceful coexistence between mutants and humankind.
This fight seemed lost when the Scarlet Witch depowered 99% of Mutants, leaving X-Men leader Cyclops and his species on the brink of extinction. But when the Phoenix, a cosmic force of both destruction and creation, returned to Earth, Cyclops saw it as a sign of hope for the future of the Mutants. In the end, Cyclops, possessed and corrupted by the Phoenix Force, struck down Professor Xavier and it took the combined might of the Avengers and the X-Men to defeat him. Just when all seemed lost, the power of the Phoenix Force was dispersed, sparking the rebirth of mutantkind.
With the emergence of these new mutants, Wolverine and the rest of his X-Men at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning have a responsibility to seek out these mutants and teach train them to use their talents for the greater good.
