The keys clacked at an alarming speed, filling the flat with the sound. It was probably best that Kaveh Rajesh Andari was single, given he spent late nights upon his laptop, clacking away. He was searching every database he could think of for information on those with powers, and so far he had come across quite a few. There was one that interested him more than the others though. Some said she was Marian Manhunter's daughter while others said it was his wife, and still others suggested his sister. Kaveh honestly didn't care which she was, he just whispered for the chance to interview her on her powers.
Something like this would be a breakthrough for him, considering he hadn't actually met any of the ones that came up in his searches besides his coworker's patient, James Wayne, whom he'd tried to interview several times to no avail. Although he had gotten out a few grumbled answers from the boy, answers that got him somewhere. Truth be told, he wasn't exactly sure where but the answers got him somewhere, considering he'd been called up by a science professor in New York, who he was to meet the very next day.
Remembering that small little detail of his next day's activities, Kaveh's brown eyes darted to the time at the corner of his screen. "Five-thirty!?" He exclaimed in surprise, his eyes nearly bugging out of his head. Snapping his laptop shut, he rose from his chair, rubbing his face. "I have got to pay better attention to the time," he muttered to himself, walking down the hall to his bedroom. Yet another reason why it was good he was single; he talked to himself. And this wasn't just the occasional occurrence, this was something that happened all the time, especially when it was late. His older brother, Naveen, had even told him that he was going to be 'forever alone' and quite frankly Kaveh believed him.
Wagging his tail, Arri followed his owner down the hall, a small little bark exiting his mouth as if to say 'finally'! Kaveh glanced at the little dog and smirked a bit, rolling his eyes and just barely stopping himself from commenting on the dog's bark. He really ought to stop talking to himself and his dog. It wasn't healthy. At least, Kaveh didn't categorize that as 'healthy behavior'.
Beep-beep! Beep-beep! Beep-beep!
The annoying beeping of his alarm clock at eight o'clock in the morning pulled Kaveh from a deep sleep and a groan slid from his lips, as he snaked his hand out, hitting at the nightstand to shut off the alarm clock, but he couldn't quite find it and the beeping grew louder and more obnoxious. "I'm awake, dammit..." he muttered, slamming his hand onto the 'off' button after locating the annoying thing.
Groaning, he sat up rubbing his face to clear the sleep from it, but knew he would be unable to clear it from his tired body. Sighing, Kaveh rose from the bed, disturbing a peaceful Arri, who looked up with a yawn. Kaveh smiled faintly, scratching the little dog behind the ears before moving into the bathroom. Taking a shower didn't clear the sleep from him as it usually did, causing him to sigh a bit as he dressed in a white collared shirt and a navy suit coat, pulling on business like pants and fixing his tie before moving out into the rest of the house, Arri scampering after him.
The Indian smiled faintly, letting Arri into the backyard and going to fill up his food dish. The little dog waited eagerly for his food, his tail wagging a mile a minute. Chuckling, Kaveh poured the food into the bowl, standing for a moment and watching the little dog wolf down his food before shaking his head and going into the kitchen to get his own food. Before getting out the cereal though, he made coffee. Checking the time, Kaveh ate quickly and packed up what he needed in a briefcase.
He took one last look around the house before moving out the door, locking it behind him, and to his car. Sliding into the driver's seat, Kaveh punched the address into his GPS system, backing out. He took a drink from his to go coffee mug as he turned onto the road, driving towards New York.
Arriving just in time, Kaveh Andari rushed into the building, heading to the elevator and stepping inside, going up to the fifth floor. With only about five minutes to spare, Kaveh made it to the room he needed to be in.
"Kaveh Andari to see Miss Travis? He said as he moved to the counter, putting on a faint smile.
The woman nodded, her green eyes meeting Kaveh's brown ones. "She'll be with you shortly, please take a sea," she replied, smiling at him and gesturing to the chairs.
Nodding politely, Kaveh went and sat, leaning back a bit and sipping from his cup. The caffeine honestly wasn't doing much. Dammit, Kaveh thought, this is a bad time to be tired...
"Mr. Andari?" A voice came from the door and he looked up, flashing a smile at the black haired woman. Rising and moving towards the woman, Kaveh was changing his cup to his other hand to shake her hand when she pointed out, "Sir, your briefcase." She pointed over his shoulder at it and he turned, glancing at it, feeling his cheeks redden in embarrassment as he shuffled over, grabbing it.
Kaveh followed the woman down the hall, listening as she spoke. "What sort of research have you been conducting, Mr. Andari?" She asked, turning to look over her shoulder, black hair swishing. "I know it's about individuals that have certain abilities, my question is, how do you determine if said person has said abilities?"
"DNA," started Kaveh, "is ever changing, ever evolving. Sometimes, certain humans are born with cells unique to them and them alone. These mutated genes take over the body and eventually allow the mutant to use said ability."
Travis turned looking at him, her pale green eyes narrowing a bit. "Are you deliberately wasting my time, Mr. Andari?" She questioned, shifting her weight and placing her hands on her hips, looking at him.
Kaveh sputtered for a moment before coming back with, "No! No, of course not, Dr. Travis."
Livia Travis narrowed her eyes. "Look, Mr. Andari, your research is obviously well done, that's the main reason I wanted you here. I want you to hand it all over to us, and we'll take it from here."
Kaveh frowned. "I've spent a great deal of time on this research, Dr. Travis. I'd be thrilled to present it to you, but in no means am I willing to hand it over to you and your facility."
"You're making a very bad choice, Kaveh, give us the research."
The frown creasing his face deepened as they stepped into a room with several others. Livia Travis put a fake grin onto her face as she introduced him to the many others sitting at the table. One of the first questions asked was "Are these mutants dangerous, Mr. Andari?"
Glancing over, Kaveh shrugged. "I couldn't say for certain, sir, considering it's up to them and how they use their abilities."
The rest of the meeting didn't go according to plan at all. Turned out, Kaveh had forgotten most of his research in the printer and on his flashdrive, which was plugged into the computer. To make matters worse, he spilled his coffee all over the front of himself and had to run to the restroom to clean what little he could off. And if that wasn't bad enough, his audience was skeptic that he was even telling them the truth, despite the articles he'd run off the internet.
The man frowned a bit. "And you've never actually met any of these 'mutants?"
Kaveh shook his head.
Livia Travis stood abruptly. "Thank you, Mr. Andari," she said shortly, "For wasting our time." She walked from the room, black hair swinging and heels clicking, the others following her out, sending disgusted looks his way.
He stood there for a moment, surprised at the outcome of the meeting. Sighing at his failure, Kaveh Rajesh Andari packed his briefcase, leaving the building behind, regretting getting up at eight for this lousy excuse for a meeting. The meeting and his lack of sleep hadn't done much for his mood and he was left to wander about New York, not really wanting to head home quite yet, considering he'd driven nearly two hours to get there and wanted to make his visit worth it.
Stopping off in Central Park, Kaveh slid into a bench, leaning back, utterly exhausted. He'd bought another coffee. He needed the caffeine. When he was awake enough he'd drive back to Gotham and take a well deserved nap, but until then he was just going to camp out on that bench, reading through his research and trying to piece everything together about the Martian Manhunter's relative.
And that's what he was doing when fate intertwined his footsteps with the footsteps of Megan Ann Morse, the one he was currently reading about.
(NOTES- Okay...wow. This has 1547 words of pure Kaveh hurt. xD Poor Kaveh. *hugs* He gets so much shit from me... and from Crow because she's going to throw Joker at him...but anyways, don't feel the need to reply in such a length, this was just a detailed description of his day. Hope this is okay!)
