She smiled broader at him. "I told you," She kissed his lips again gently. "Not to call me that." She smiled, not at all bothered by what seemed to be a game between them. She smiled and kissed his lips one more time. "I don't ever remember a time, where there was anything more handsome and wonderful, than you." She smiled, her eyes still bright. |

There wouldn't be a moment that Hailey wouldn't find him staring at the other woman, and had liked to tease him about it.

She laughed a little at their old joke. "Of course Peggy Carter." She smiled wider, and sighed, mockingly. "Just like there was Tommy McGee." Another joke of theirs, she knew he was just a friend. That was the only person he suspected her of loving, and she did, as a brother and nothing more. |

Steve had to laugh. "Oh yes! Tommy Mcgee...one of the many men we saved on our first mission...do you remember it as well as I do, Mistress Liberty?" It had been a success, but they both went through hell to get out of there alive, Hailey more then him. His leg had never been quite right after that, but he had never admitted it to anymore, not even Hailey.

She smirked, her eyes still bright, but they flickered back in pain at the mention of the first mission, but pure happiness and joy soon took over and they were bright again. "I remember it as clearly as if it was yesterday." Her smile had shrunk a little, but it was still there. She did remember the mission, and there were times where she still felt the pain from that mission, mental and physical, but she would never tell anyone that, not even Steve. I remember it so well, pictures of you dying in my arms wake me every night. She wanted to tell him this, but decided against it. "I remember a lot of things.." |

Steve sighed and brushed a thumb across her cheek. "I thought I lost you...and I can't live without you." He searched her eyes. Memories from that day haunted him and for the longest time he'd thought her dead and those memories just made those years of thinking she was dead worse to handle. They had been on many missions together, but that first mission was the one that haunted him the most. Others plagued him but not as bad as that one.

She slid her hands down his back and hugged him. "You can't get rid of me that easily." She remembered saying that about six times on that specific mission. She leaned her head on his shoulder, not wanting to let go. "I can't live without you either." She let one tear slide, releasing some pain stored inside of her, where he face was Steve wouldn't be able to see the tear. "I can't live with out you." She repeated in a softer tone, more to herself than to him, but she need him to know it was real. |

"Good." he told her, remembering how many times she'd said that over the years. When he'd been wounded and he'd threatened to kill her if she didn't leave, but still she didn't leave. He stroked through her hair and kissed her cheek.

She smiled, and when he kissed her cheek she planted a gentle kiss on his collar bone. She knew she would never leave him, and she didn't want to either. I'd lay down my own life for you, and I've almost done it before... She sighed and rested her forehead on his shoulders. Images of them over the years running past her eyes. |

She didn't know what was worse than death, but she would go through it if it meant Steve wouldn't be hurt. "I'd take a bullet to the head a thousand times over for you." "I know you would, trust me, I know." He smiled at her, a true sincere smile, something he hadn't done for anyone other then Sam. And as he closed the distance between them, placing a passionate kiss onto her lips, Steve knew that this really had been a walk to remember.

She smiled at his true smile, she had waited so long to see it again. When he closed the distance for a final time, she leaned forward and met him in the middle.
